Your Entrepreneurship Story

Assignment 3A-YOUR ENTREPRENEURSHIP STORY

My best story of entrepreneurship was when I and four other students were assigned to create a product that tackles biodiversity. In my 2018 summer semester, I took a course called Creativity in Action that encourages taking creative action to solve problems. The major goal of the course was to create a product that helps maintain biodiversity in a native ecosystem. The first task was to select an area that we knew best given our individual and group background, for example our hometowns. After much deliberation we choose the Everglades as it is in the state of Florida and major part of our ecosystem that affects all Floridians. The next task was to find a problem in that area that has affected its biodiversity. Our group decided to focus on bringing awareness to the importance of the Everglades as misinformation and unawareness are usually what cause people to cause harm to our natural ecosystem. The Everglades is an important source of biodiversity in state of Florida and so our group created a functioning app to give people updated information about the Everglades. The app called Eversave, was created to encourage people to learn about Everglades and want to visit it in order to experience it for themselves. Features of the app allowed users to watch informational videos, the ability to create their own videos, and articles about the Everglades. All our hard work lead up to the competitive showcase for our product. Although we didn't win it was a fun learning experience that challenged our creativity.

Here is a picture of me and my group after the showcase.

  1. Hello Gerielle!

That is a great entrepreneurship story! I like that you were able to merge entrepreneurship, programming, and biology skills to come up with the Eversave app. It is certainly a project with a purpose, which is very important in this day and age. If you guys didn’t win with a great product like that, I can only imagine who got first place!

    Great post!

  2. Hey Gerielle,
I definitely enjoyed your entrepreneurship story, I find it really interesting how everybody from different backgrounds and experiences all can share a similar passion in creating something new and making an impact. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t win the competition, but I’m sure you learned many of the skills that would allow you to create a new product and do it even better than before!

  3. Hey Gerielle,

Entrepreneurship stories are so fun to hear because they really showcase the inspiration and creativity in people. The course “Creativity in Action” sounds pretty cool; I feel like it embodies entrepreneurship in a way. I appreciate the focus on the Everglades and the idea to make an app was both creative and cool! Do you think you would ever further develop this or do something similar? P.S. I love the name ‘Eversave’.
