Reading Reflection No. 1
13A – READING REFLECTION NO. 1
1) You read about an entrepreneur: Miracles Happen by Mary Kay Ash
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
- She easily knew what she prioritizes the most in her life from the beginning. She also never gave up even though she felt like she getting too old for her career.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
- There was no part that confused me, everything was pretty straight forward and understand. It was an enjoyable book to read from start to end.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
- What was the lowest point in your career? Because I want to know what was her lowest point to see if her rock bottom encouraged her to try harder.
- How did she come up with the $35,000 list? I would like to know how this helped her with her career.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
- Her main core idea is for women to be allow to grow and become what they are capable of without it getting in the way of what's important to them. I agree that women should be allowed more of a chance to grow and be successful in their career.
1) You read about an entrepreneur: Miracles Happen by Mary Kay Ash
- What surprised you the most?
- That Mary Kay Ash went through so much like having to care for her ill father and losing her husband after her business started, but she still pursued her dreams.
- What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
- That she put her career last in list of priorities. She put God number one, then her family, and lastly her career.
- What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
- She thinks that women need to rely on their looks for a good portion of their life, which is dis-concerning to me. I think that it is ridiculous that women to rely on looks instead of her skills.
- Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
- The adversity that Mary Kay Ash faced was mainly her age and the fact that the men she trained would get promoted before her.

Hey Gerielle,
ReplyDeleteThis entrepreneur's story seems quite interesting from what I could extract from your post. Although I agree that the notion that women should rely solely their looks over their skills is very ridiculous, I have to say that looks in and of itself are a skill that should be seized.
Gerielle,
ReplyDeleteI find it so intriguing the Mary Kay Ash had such rough personal tragedies, but still managed to be successful and continue to pursue her dreams. Too many women have a tough time with self-image, and as someone who works with cosmetics, it must have been a set-back for her (in the sense that she relied on her looks or thought she wasn’t good enough based on looks).
