18A- CREATE A CUSTOMER AVATAR

My product is marketed toward individuals, so that is the main focus.
She lives in Vermont in a suburban area that has no connection to anything agricultural related. She is junior at Champlain Valley Union High School. She is in a varsity team for track and field, needs to get into shape. She has to become more selective of what food she eats and that it won't affect her performance negatively. She usually eats whatever food her parents gives her, which tend to be meat with grains and veggies sometimes the occasional fruit. She has many friends who have different eating preferences and she can't decide which one is best for her.
She doesn't having any understanding of the food she eats, so she does research on the internet to found out whats best. After reading articles from PETA and ARM, she becomes afraid of eating meat for concern of her health and the animals too. So she decides to cut out meat from her life without learning more to see if it is true or not.

What do I have in common with her? I too at certain point in high school, read some PETA articles that scared me from eating meat. The only difference though is that I had more resources at my disposable that helped me learn more.
I don't think this is a coincidence. It is easy to trust something that has a constant presence in our society, an organization PETA has been around for so long that people tend to look to them for facts that are sometimes not true at all. So people live their lives believing in the wrong information and looking at the livestock industry in a bad light.

  1. Hey Gerielle,
I found it interesting how you mentioned that your target customer is (what I would imagine) is a large segment of the population that you would be able to aim towards. It is so easy to listen to the news and not do any further research to see what is true and not. I have especially interesting how there have been many small websites that try to become non-biased, but are minuscule compared to the major cable news networks.
